>Boeing 787-8 Avionics
Performed integration and testing of the 787-8 Lateral Control Electronics (LCE) fly-by-wire flight control unit which controls the outboard ailerons and spoilers were electrically commanded.
Testing was performed using an integrated aerodynamics simulation in conjunction with hardware in-the-loop avionics, flight controls and hydraulics test bench. Control surfaces included the outboard ailerons, spoilers, and flaps. Testing of control laws and system interfaces was conducted using detailed test plans in conjunction with the Boeing Scenario scripting language, which is similar to the C programming language. Piloted test maneuvers were executed at the 747-8 test bench in addition to the full cockpit simulator.
There are two, left and right, LCE’s per aircraft. The LCE provides control for two outboard aileron actuators, 6 spoilers (3 symmetric spoiler pairs), flap position, excitation/demodulation of system sensors, system input/output redundancy management, digital interfaces to other aircraft systems, and safety/maintenance monitoring. The LCE cockpit inputs include the L/R control wheels, speed-brake handle, and rudder pedal positions. Other LCE inputs are the aileron, and spoiler position transducers, Air Data Inertial Reference Units (ADIRU), Flap Control Units (FCUs), and the offside LCE. The main output interfaces are with the outboard ailerons, spoilers, FCUs, offside LCE, and the Central Maintenance Computer. Analog inputs included LVDTs, resolvers, and hydraulic pressures.
